The mosque was founded in 1926 as a token of gratitude, after World War I, to the Muslim tirailleurs from France's Colonial Empire. Grande Mosquée de Paris is one of the largest mosques in France and the third largest in Europe, The mosque located in the 5th arrondissement, right in the heart of Paris, It is just a little more than a mile from Notre Dame.
